Message It starts burning less readily, which is why it won't knock as easily.

Octane doesn't mean energy content, but it does correlate. E85 is 105 octane, and costs you about 1/3 your power/torque/mileage. Diesel is very knock happy; propane and hydrogen are not but have much less energy.
